Baltimore Go Club Meetup

The Baltimore Go Club meets at No Land Beyond every Thursday starting at 6:30pm. Come out and challenge members of the club or learn to play this ancient strategy game.

Go is an abstract strategy board game for two players, in which the aim is to surround more territory than the opponent. The game was invented in China more than 2,500 years ago and is believed to be the oldest board game continuously played to the present day.

Despite its relatively simple rules, Go is very complex. Compared to chess, Go has both a larger board with more scope for play and longer games, and, on average, many more alternatives to consider per move. The lower bound on the number of legal board positions in Go has been estimated to be 2 × 10170 which is greater than the number of atoms in the universe.

Mahjong Sundays!

Come learn how to play Riichi Mahjong! You've probably seen mahjong tiles in the solitaire matching game. But this Japanese multiplayer variant is like a mixture of poker and rummy that you play with tiles. But you can't just fold if you have a bad hand! You have to carefully navigate each draw and discard to stay alive. You never really know how much danger you (or your opponents) might be in! Riichi is the premier way to play in the US, and we want to expand our local playgroup and teach everyone how great this game is. Practically infinite depth achieved with simple base mechanics. Lots of room for personal style, too! No experience or familiarity required.

The Wednesday night Mahjong meetup has been one of our fastest growing events at the shop and to accommodate more players we’re adding an additional meetup now on Sundays at 2pm!

TTRPG Book Club: Our Haunt

Join us at No Land Beyond on February 9th at 2 PM to discuss Our Haunt by Rae Nedjadi, a creepy-cozy ttrpg about a found family of ghosts and their haunted home.

Hosted by Dustin Patrick Winter, game designer and co-founder of Scryptid Games, the Indie TTRPG Community Book Club is an in-person, monthly gathering. We are here to support indie game designers and discuss bold new ideas in gaming.

Here’s how it works: you read (some or all of) this month’s book ahead of time, then just show up! During the meeting, we break into small groups, play an abbreviated portion of that month’s game, and then we reconvene to discuss the book as a game text and how the intro game went!

You can buy a physical and/or pdf copy of the game at Indie Press Revolution: https://www.indiepressrevolution.com/xcart/Our-Haunt.html

Our attendees also get 10% off of anything from the indie racks when shopping in-person at the No Land Beyond store.

This event is public and open to all, so feel free to spread the word!  No previous gaming experience required.

Pauper MTG Weekly Tournament

Every Thursday No Land Beyond is now offering an official Pauper tournament! Pauper is a constructed Magic The Gathering format where only cards that have been printed at Common rarity are allowed. Pauper has its own banned and restricted card list, to find out more you can read up on it here: https://mtg.fandom.com/wiki/Pauper

Starting August 1st Pauper will be transitioning to a weekly tournament!

The tournament will feature 3 rounds of best of 3 games, $5 entry. Everyone gets a promo pack for entering and 1 current standard set play booster pack will be entered in the prize pool for every 2 players who enter the tournament to be distributed at the end of the tournament.

Don’t want to play in the tournament but still want to play casual pauper or check out the format? We’ll have plenty of space for casual play as well!
